I have never understood the whole Prince conversion. How someone goes from 'f*cking the taste out of your mouth' to arguably the most sexually repressed religion is not a dot I can connect. I read something about his mother being a Witness and her dying wish was for him to convert. If that were true, then he did it out of pure guilt. This leads me to believe that eventually he'll just fade or be DAed. Whatever it is, guilt is not a stable foundation for faith. I doubt they want the bad publicity of disfellowshipping Prince all for everyone to see. The Society probably has handlers assigned to him who not only check up on him, but are ready to diffuse any situation should it come up.

JW Celebrities , Do you think they have anything more than a superficial understanding of Watchtower beleifs ?
by smiddy inthis is just something that has crossed my mind in the past , with ones such as the williams sisters ( tennis stars ) george benson ( music ) prince (pop star / music ) and the like, do you think they have any real indepth knowledge of the teachings of the watchtower bible & tract society ?
( jehovahs witnesses ) or are they just superficial beleivers ,what`s the latest fad in religion scenario , and once in, it`s not cool to break with it in a hurry.
maybe you can think of a few more celebrities that can be added here.. what`s your thoughts ?.

my relative knew certain details about me that only my mother and a couple others knew.
of the three, my mother is by far the most inclined to speak maliciously about it.

It it were only my mother, I would probably turn my back and keep walking. But it's difficult to give up on your entire family like that. My favourite brother has a non-JW wife, and his children that aren't too involved at the Hall. I am particularly close to them. My, do they throw some great parties! They don't judge me or anything, but my mother does still have some influence over people. I feel that I just want her out of my life, and not throw everyone else away with her. But it might not be possible. I don't know. I suppose I'll see what everyone is made of in the months to come.

So in speaking to a non-JW relative the other day, I find that my mother has been quite active on the gossip circuit. My relative knew certain details about me that only my mother and a couple others knew. Of the three, my mother is by far the most inclined to speak maliciously about it. Putting it more succinctly, she has a big mouth. She has never taken my side and always assumed the worst about me. When she found out that I went to a ska concert when I was 15, she threatened to have me tested for marijuana and report the results to the elders. So now there are ugly rumours circulating about me in family (and I would suppose JW) circles. All but one have some element of truth to them, but they are exaggerated and made to look like I have done these things knowingly and purposely to bring shame on ‘Jehovah’s name’.
I think I am done with her for the rest of the year. I refuse to deal with having such a close family connection speaking vicious things about me behind my back and telling everyone I am a horrible person. She wrote me an email 5 days ago and I still haven’t responded. Now that I know something else, I’m thinking up something proper to say to her. I was going to go to the Hall this Sunday, but I don’t even want to look at her. I’m in the process of getting a new mobile phone, and I think I will change my number, giving it out to people whom I want to keep in contact with.
As I look down from the 7 th floor here, I see normal people walking, conversing, and living life on the busy street. Most of my family won’t speak to me, I live in an unfamiliar district, and the car that I once had is at my brother’s home over 100 kilometres away. I really need to get out of the city this weekend. I think I’ll take the ferry somewhere and find lodging for a couple days. It’s time to just get some people out of my mind.

Thanks Fernando. As I have noticed, there are many different battle lines drawn here and it’s a crazy hodge-podge of intellectuals, reborn Christians, leftists, rightists, sweet and welcoming people, condescending people, as well as the bitter and angry. The only thing that truly shocked me were the crude sexual innuendo and humiliation directed at me. All I did was express an opinion which was contrary to what some others thought. It was a transparent attempt to get me off an inconvenient subject. But it seems to have calmed down now, and I hope that we can at least discuss things civilly.
Thanks again, for the thoughts.

Chariklo – I was referring to your responce within the thread to the moderator where you gave the link to the Malvinas thread. Of course I would have no idea what you PMed her about or her reply. I also understand that these lame ‘gotcha’ tactics are part of your rhetorical strategy.
moshe – You are putting words into my mouth with “no opinions wanted”. Certainly I can take an opinion, but that was not the intent of why I posted here. I had already made up my mind about it and was sharing my plan. Some were immediately opposed to it and expressed themselves as such. I kindly reiterated what I had intended on doing. Perhaps some people have tried the same tactics and would share their experiences? But you apparently are not interested in that and are bent on moving straight into the judgment phase, which you didn’t waste any time doing. If you were not an elder or CO before, it would have been a total shame. You’d be just what they wanted on a judicial committee. You should really take that as a compliment.

Charliko – By excusing moshe and trying to give an explanation to his comments, you are attaching your name and reputation to what he said to me. I fail to see why you see fit to keep mentioning that both of these threads are linked, and that you need to understand the undercurrent in both. There is some overlap to be sure, but for the most part the comments here have been about my situation as described. The early Malvinas posts have been directed towards that thread. More troubling is the fact that details of my personal life which were revealed in this thread were inexcusably shifted over to the Malvinas thread as a way to attack me. You claim that moshe wasn’t using this to attack me. Really? So his advice to name my child ‘Malvino’ or ‘Malvina’, not to mention his concern for my birth control practices were genuine? For someone who likes to pride themself on researching the facts and discussing them, I would have thought you would have known better than to defend such a man and his comments. This behaviour leads me to believe that moshe for you was a useful tool for saying hurtful things to me, while you cowardly hid behind him and had a few giggle fits. Now that a moderator gets involved, you step right up almost immediately and give her a reading of a Genesis to the Apocalypse-style history of these threads. Not only is this dishonest and misleading, it shows that you’d been one of the biggest cheerleaders (if not the ringleader) of these postings which were clearly designed to embarrass me. You have foolishly painted yourself into a corner with this, and you simply picked the wrong side. You didn’t say those inappropriate comments to me, and I had no real quarrel with you besides a few heated posts. Now you have stepped up as his defender and make the ludicrous claim that moshe’s comments were in no way a personal attack. Good luck with that. It looks like the moderator is in firm disagreement with you on that, along with many others. You couldn’t have just stuck to your guns on the Malvinas issue. You had to applaud and defend moshe sticking his rhetorical knife into me. This couldn’t have been illustrated any better for everyone to see.
moshe – I did not ask for any advice, nor did I seek sympathy. I was introducing myself and telling my story, which I thought was one of the purposes for this forum. If I had sought any sympathy, it certainly wouldn’t be from you.

And I certainly need you to keep on telling me what is true and what is not. Maybe you should start a wiki page on me so you can quote from it.

Chariklo – You need not quote the Malvinas thread to me here. As you know, I am a regular contributor on that thread.
So an imperial power did not take sparsely inhabited islands from another country in 1833? I’m not getting how that fact is a myth? You call the Malvinas claim of Argentina a myth. Here’s another one: The Malvinas were a sparsely populated entity which did not have a proper government, and the UK stepped in and provided such a government. If you want to go further, the British “Falklands Doctrine” would have allowed it to invade and keep any territory on earth that didn’t have a properly constituted government as they saw fit. There are thousands of such islands today in all four oceans. Get your warships ready and prepare to plant your flags!

stillajwexelder: We all have our own injustices to deal with, and your country is just as guilty of that if not more. We can’t fix everything. But the next time an imperial power takes some adjacent islands of yours and boots your governor out, then let us know. We’ll be certain to support you diplomatically. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Native American claims to both American continents would be virtually impossible to set right. But a sparsely populated colonial outpost falls into the realm of a reasonable negotiation. Let’s not compare apples and oranges.
